Double definition – Dubbel bestämdhet

Grammar tricks can be quite a pain in the arse! In most languages one has to use one form of the definite article, before or after a word. Nope, that doesn’t work like that in swedish. It is called Dubbel bestämdhet and means that you must mark the definite article before the adjective and after the noun. Let’s see some examples!

Det röda huset

Det svenska språket

De fina bilarna

And if you haven’t yet noticed, so adjectives get also plural form! Wow! Hard to keep all that in mind, isn’t it?
